AFGE: On Your Side From the Beginning

AFGE: The Time for TSA
Employee Bargaining Rights is Now!

AFGE has worked tirelessly for eight years to get TSOs the workplace rights they deserve. As that possibility nears reality, we need your help.

  • Sign AFGE's petition to DHS Secretary Napolitano, urging immediate action on the collective bargaining issue
  • AFGE was first out of the gate supporting H.R. 1881 (the Lowey Bill), which will grant TSOs collective bargaining rights and make workplace protections a reality for the 40,000 men and women who stand on the front lines protecting this nation. AFGE encourages cosponsorship of the bill and stresses the urgency of a swift passage. Click here for details on how you can help and for more information.
  • Contact President Obama and strongly urge him to sign an Executive Order directing TSA to grant TSOs collective bargaining rights and workplace protections. Submit your comments directly at http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/opl/

AFGE Concerned About PSE Test High Failure Rate

Not wasting one minute, AFGE flew into immediate action upon hearing from its members about the astronomical failure rate of TSOs on the Practical Skills Evaluations test. In a strongly-worded letter to TSA, AFGE urged TSA to suspend the PSE until the tests have been reviewed. AFGE also asked that TSA provide failure rates by airport, that TSA reinstate all TSOs who have been removed because of the failures, and that the failures be cleared from records so that PASS scores and pay are not affected. In addition, AFGE will be seeking a congressional investigation into the situation.

AFGE Launches Innovative Video Series

AFGE earlier this year launched a video series detailing its involvement at the TSA, including federalizing the TSA workforce, the right to unionize, organizing efforts, attorney representation and pay.

Episode 1: AFGE's Fight to Federalize TSA

Episode 2: AFGE's Fight for TSOs to Unionize

AFGE is excited to announce the release of the first in a series of videos explaining AFGE's role as the only union to stand behind TSA employees from the beginning. AFGE, in fact, was involved before TSA was created, arguing the need for a federalized workforce. The second video in AFGE's five-part series highlights AFGE's insistence that the TSA workforce be allowed to unionize--a right guaranteed to them by the U.S. Constitution.

Chapter 3: AFGE's Fight to Organize at TSA

Episode 4: AFGE's Fight for TSOs to Receive Representation

With TSA mistreating its employees, AFGE stepped in to organize at the agency, and provide those employees with as much protection as possible With seven full-time attorneys dedicated only to TSA cases, and dozens more in AFGE's Office of General Counsel, AFGE has taken on TSA in the courts, and before the International Labor Organization, Federal Labor Relations Authority, TSA Disciplinary Review Board and the EEOC.

Episode 5: AFGE's Fight to Make Fair TSA's Pay System

Collective bargaining at TSA would resolve many of the problems facing TSOs and would ensure for a fair pay system. AFGE has fought to do away with TSA's PASS and put TSOs under the General Schedule, where they belong.

Swine Flu/H1N1 Watch

AFGE is first and foremost concerned with the safety of every Transportation Security Officer across the nation. AFGE is proactively taking action to ensure that each and every TSO is protected on the job.

What to do if you contract swine flu

If you experience symptoms of the swine flu, stay home from work and get immediate medical attention.

If you are found to have contracted swine flu while on the job, get a CA-2 from your supervisor. If you are refused a claim form, get the form here (OWCP Form CA-2). Fill it out and submit it to DOL with a note stating that your agency refused to provide one.

For more information, including information from the Office of Personnel Management and the Centers for Disease Control, visit AFGE's information page on the swine flu.
