AFGE: On Your Side From the Begining

The Transportation Security Administration Union

As the only union to represent Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees since the agency's inception, AFGE is widely recognized as THE TSA union.

With multiple full-time TSA-dedicated attorneys on staff, AFGE is the only union to offer to its members FREE legal assistance. AFGE has taken on--and beaten--TSA in the courts, before the International Labor Organization and with the Federal Labor Relations Authority over issues including collective bargaining rights, fair personnel systems, merit-based pay and promotion policies, and regular and reasonable work schedules.

Join the thousands of your coworkers who already know that AFGE is the union for Transportation Security Administration employees.

AFGE Call for Uniform Recall Receiving Nationwide Attention

When TSA started distributing new uniforms to its workers earlier this year, it hoped to bring a more professional appearance to the 43,000-strong workforce. Professionalism, however, was not the only thing that came with the new blue shirts. Severe skin rashes, lightheadedness, swelling and redness in and around the eyes and lips are symptoms described by TSOs who have been wearing these new uniforms.
AFGE sent a letter to TSA Administrator Kip Hawley, demanding that the issue be looked into for possible violation of DOL regulations. AFGE also is demanding that TSA immediately recall and replace the uniforms, and in the interim allow TSOs to wear their white uniforms. AFGE also has called on TSA to facilitate the filing of workers' compensation claims with the Labor Department.

AFGE, Obama and TSA

Prior to his election, President-elect Obama met on several occasions with AFGE leadership, during which he stressed support for AFGE's efforts at getting back the workplace rights stolen from TSA employees. Following Obama's historic win, there has been a resurgence of interest in TSA, specifically in regard to a letter Obama wrote to AFGE on his hopes for the agency. The only union fighting for TSOs since the agency's inception, AFGE was the go-to source of information for media inquiries.
